Earth Day

Thu, April 22

When it comes to protecting our environment, the little things matter. From planting a tree to finally remembering that reusable cup, simple, everyday actions can make a big difference.

Below are some of the many ways we support environmental efforts:

  • Re-using our own retention pond; recycling the water for our efforts
  • Planting drought-resistant plants and trees
  • We have 5 Bioswales channels, which collect polluted stormwater runoff, soak it into the ground, and filter out pollution
  • Providing bike racks
  • Providing two bus stops on property
  • Hosting two Little Free Libraries to encourage sharing books, less waste
  • Hosting onsite composting units
  • Converting exterior parking lot lights to LED

Madewell

  • Recycle: We’re giving new life to old jeans through recycling. We’ll turn your old bootcuts into housing insulation for communities in need. So far, you’ve donated more than 800,000 pairs of jeans to our program, warming more than 1,000 homes (and keeping 415 tons of denim out of the trash).
  • Materials: by 2025, 100% of the key fibers used in our materials will be sustainably sourced and free of non-recycled plastics.
  • What We’re Doing Now: Right now 67 percent of our spring clothing collection is sourced more sustainably or made with Do Well materials.

Shake Shack

  • In 2020, Shake Shack continued to increase our investment in sustainable and regenerative agriculture, sourcing over one million pounds of natural, sustainable, and humanely raised pork from our partners at Niman Ranch and over 250,000 pounds of regeneratively ranched beef.
  • At Shake Shack, We pride ourselves on sourcing premium ingredients like 100% antibiotic- and hormone-free proteins (beef, chicken, and pork) that are always vegetarian fed, humanely raised, source verified—plus, raised and harvested in the USA. Our beef and chicken are always fresh, never frozen.
  • Additionally, we’ve remained committed to using cage-free eggs in all our food and have done so for the past three years. All our buns are non-GMO and our vanilla and chocolate frozen custard recipes use only real sugar (no high-fructose corn syrup!) and milk from dairy farmers who pledge not to use artificial growth hormones.
  • Our Shacks feature reclaimed, salvaged, and certified materials, including tables made from reclaimed bowling lanes! We’re proud to have eliminated nearly 165,000 pounds of trash and recycled 1.8 million pounds of waste oil in 2020.

LUSH

  • The Climate Can’t Wait. At LUSH, we’re creating a cosmetics revolution to save the planet.
  • Lush is a company of activists. For more than a decade, we’ve campaigned alongside the climate movement, calling on our staff, customers, industry and government to combat the climate crisis. To meet the science-informed targets of the Paris Agreement and prevent the earth’s temperature from rising more than 1.5°C, we need to work together.
  • Climate justice movements have shown that decades of fossil fuel extraction that has caused permanent damage to the environment and which largely exist close to BIPOC and low-income areas (environmental racism) has destroyed land and livelihoods, and sickened Indigenous and other marginalized communities.
  • That’s why we work with grassroots organizations fighting for climate justice. Through our charitable giving program, Charity Pot, we support hundreds of groups on the frontlines of environmental racism and industrial extraction projects, and who resist more harm to their communities, developing innovative and local solutions for lasting change. LL Bean

The LL Bean founder, Leon Leonwood Bean, was an avid outdoorsman first and a businessman second, so our strong commitment to the outdoors is nothing new. For over a century, L.L.Bean has constantly found new ways to lessen our environmental impact through the creation of our products and the efficiency of the buildings we make them in – and we’re working hard every day to do even more.
